Overview
The Gold-Rimmed Surgeonfish, also known as the Whitecheek Tang, is the perfect pick for a hobbyist who wants the aesthetic of a "Powder" tang with a bit more resilience. It features a stunning velvet-black body highlighted by gold-to-yellow rims on the fins and a distinct white patch below the eye. As an active swimmer, it requires a large tank with plenty of open swimming lanes and high-flow areas to maintain its health. Like all Acanthurus species, it’s a dedicated herbivore—you need to feed it plenty of dried seaweed (nori) to keep its immune system strong and prevent dietary deficiencies. While it can be territorial toward other tangs, it’s generally peaceful toward other reef inhabitants and completely reef-safe.
