SME Overview The Red Bar Anthias is a powerhouse of color for any reef system. Named for the distinct red vertical bar that develops on the sides of males, these fish are among the hardier Anthias species available. They occupy the middle to upper levels of the tank, providing constant movement and a flash of bright pinkish-red. To keep them healthy, you need to mimic their natural environment: high water flow and plenty of rockwork for hiding. Like most Anthias, they have a high metabolism, so plan on feeding them small amounts of vitamin-enriched mysis or brine shrimp multiple times a day. Keeping them in a small group with one male and several females is the best way to see their natural behavior and maintain their vibrant colors.
